Arctic Regional Leadership Team: Expression of Interest

The Arctic is one of IEG’s seven socio-cultural regions. It is the only one without a leadership team in place, and we are now inviting expressions of interest from people who want to help build it.

What we are recruiting

Four positions on the Arctic Regional Leadership Team. The team will represent Arctic Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities within IEG’s global governance, convene the region’s members, and carry Arctic priorities into IEG’s work on nature governance and stewardship.

The Regional Chair is not appointed through this process. Once the team is formed, the Chair is determined from within it by the region itself, through its own process of self-determination.

The expected commitment is around five days a month. Term length will be set by the region as it establishes itself. This time is recognised and accounted for as valuable stewardship work.

Who can express interest

We particularly welcome interest from people connected to Arctic Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, including Inuit, Sámi, Aleut, Athabaskan, Gwich’in, and the Indigenous peoples of the Russian Arctic.

You do not need to hold a formal position or represent a registered organisation. What matters is your standing with the people and places you come from, and your commitment to collective rather than individual interests.

What the role involves

  • Convening and representing Arctic members within IEG
  • Participating in IEG’s governance processes on the region’s behalf
  • Carrying Arctic priorities into global decisions on nature governance
  • Supporting new members in the region to join and take part
  • Working towards a fully self-governing Arctic region

What happens next

Send us your details using the form below. The Secretariat receives every expression of interest and passes it to a working group of the Governance Assembly, which reviews it and will be in touch to talk with you.

Our aim is to have the Arctic region established before the end of 2026.

Expressions of interest close at the end of November 2026, and will remain open after that until the team is fully formed and the region is self-governing.
